"La giustizia divina ha le sue leggi che non sono sempre identiche a quelle della giustizia umana. Facciamo un esempio. Volete fare del bene a qualcuno, ma ecco che a causa della vostra ignoranza o della vostra goffaggine, quella persona rimane vittima di un incidente: la giustizia terrena, che non distingue i vostri intenti, vi condanna sulla base delle vostre azioni. Invece, la giustizia che è in alto, la quale conosce le vostre buone intenzioni, forse lascerà che le leggi umane vi puniscano – questo non la riguarda –, ma vi ricompenserà largamente per la vostra generosità.

E viceversa: apparentemente potete agire bene nei confronti di qualcuno, ma con l’intenzione nascosta di indurlo in errore, di abusare di lui; sulla terra sarete apprezzati e gli altri si congratuleranno con voi, ma il Cielo, invece, vi punirà, perché i tribunali celesti non vi giudicano in base alle vostre azioni, ma in base ai vostri intenti.
Il campo delle azioni e quello delle intenzioni non dipendono dalla stessa giurisdizione. Certo, se i vostri intenti, come anche le vostre azioni, sono irreprensibili, sarete ricompensati da tutte e due le parti; e se da entrambe le parti trasgredite le leggi, entrambi i tribunali vi condanneranno."

"Divine justice has its laws, which are not always identical to those of human justice. Let us take an example: you would like to do somebody good, but through your own ignorance or clumsiness, they are the victim of an accident. Earthly justice, which does not perceive your motives, judges you according to your actions. Divine justice, on the other hand, which does know your good intentions, may allow human law to punish you, because it is not its concern, but it will amply reward you for your generosity. 
Conversely, you may appear to behave appropriately towards someone but with the hidden intention of misleading them, and so, whereas you will be appreciated on earth, heaven will punish you because the celestial law courts judge you not according to your actions, but according to your motives. Actions and motives are not subject to the same jurisdiction. Of course, if both your motives and your actions are divine and irreproachable you will be rewarded by both sides, and equally if you infringe the laws on both sides then both courts will condemn you."

"La justice divine a ses lois qui ne sont pas toujours identiques à celles de la justice humaine. Prenons un exemple. Vous voulez rendre service à quelqu’un, mais voilà qu’à cause de votre ignorance ou de votre maladresse, il est victime d’un accident : la justice terrestre, qui ne discerne pas vos mobiles, vous condamne d’après vos actes. Mais la justice d’en haut, qui connaît vos bonnes intentions, laissera peut-être les lois humaines vous punir, ce n’est pas son domaine, mais elle vous récompensera largement pour votre générosité.
Inversement, vous pouvez en apparence bien agir vis-à-vis de quelqu’un, mais avec l’intention cachée de l’induire en erreur, d’abuser de lui ; sur la terre vous serez apprécié, félicité, mais le Ciel, lui, vous punira, parce que les tribunaux célestes vous jugent non d’après vos actes, mais d’après vos mobiles. Le domaine des actes et celui des mobiles ne dépendent pas de la même juridiction. Bien sûr, si vos mobiles comme vos actes sont irréprochables, vous serez récompensé des deux côtés ; et si des deux côtés vous transgressez les lois, les deux tribunaux vous condamneront."

"Die göttliche Gerechtigkeit hat ihre Gesetze, die nicht immer mit denen der menschlichen Justiz wesensgleich sind. Nehmen wir ein Beispiel. Ihr wollt jemandem etwas Gutes tun, aber aufgrund eurer Unkenntnis oder Ungeschicklichkeit wird er zum Opfer eines Unfalls. Die irdische Justiz, welche eure Beweggründe nicht in Betracht zieht, verurteilt euch nach euren Taten. Die Justiz von Oben dagegen, welche eure guten Absichten kennt, lässt es vielleicht zu, dass die menschlichen Gesetze euch bestrafen, weil sie sich da nicht einmischt, sie wird euch aber für euren Großmut reichlich belohnen.
Umgekehrt könnt ihr so tun, als ob ihr jemandem etwas Gutes tun würdet, in Wirklichkeit aber beabsichtigen, ihn in die Irre zu führen oder ihn auszunutzen. Auf der Erde werdet ihr geschätzt, aber der Himmel wird euch strafen, weil das himmlische Tribunal euch nicht nach euren Handlungen, sondern nach euren Beweggründen beurteilt. Die Ebene der Taten und die der Beweggründe unterliegen nicht der gleichen Rechtsprechung. Wenn eure Beweggründe, ebenso wie eure Taten, einwandfrei sind, so werdet ihr natürlich von beiden Seiten belohnt. Und wenn ihr auf beiden Seiten die Gesetze übertretet, dann werdet ihr auch von beiden Gerichten verurteilt."
