Libertà - essere capaci di non aspettarsi nulla dagli altri / Freedom - being able to expect nothing from others / la Liberté : être capable de ne rien attendre des autres / Die Freiheit: in der Lage sein, nichts von den Menschen zu erwarten

"Gli esseri umani sono straordinari: vogliono essere liberi e indipendenti, ma allo stesso tempo si aspettano sempre qualcosa dagli altri. Chiedono continuamente che si pensi a loro, che li si ami, che li si aiuti o si lavori al posto loro. Che contraddizione! 

Se volete veramente essere liberi, cominciate a non contare più così tanto sull’aiuto degli altri. Ciascuno ha le sue preoccupazioni, le sue difficoltà, allora un giorno si pensa a voi e l'indomani vi si dimentica, è normale. E anche ammettendo che tutti siano disposti ad aiutarvi, vi sentireste ancora insoddisfatti. Perché?
Perché ciò di cui avete veramente bisogno, gli altri non possono darvelo, siete voi che dovete lavorare per acquisirlo. Ciò di cui avete veramente bisogno, è diventare più ragionevoli, più pazienti, più forti, più illuminati... Solo così sarete più liberi. E soltanto voi, con i vostri sforzi, potete riuscirci."

"Human beings are quite extraordinary: they want to be free and independent, but at the same time they always expect something from others. They never stop asking that others think of them, love them, help them, or do their work for them. This is so contradictory.
If you truly want to be free you must start by not relying on the help of others. Everyone has their worries and problems, and so not surprisingly people think of you one day, but forget you the next. And even if the entire world were ready to help you, you would still be dissatisfied. Why? Because others cannot give you what you really need. You must work to acquire it. What you really need is to become more reasonable, stronger, more patient and more enlightened – this is how you will become freer. And it is only you, through your own efforts, who can achieve this."

"Les humains sont extraordinaires : ils veulent être libres, indépendants, mais en même temps ils attendent toujours quelque chose des autres. Ils ne cessent de demander qu’on pense à eux, qu’on les aime, qu’on les aide, qu’on travaille à leur place. Quelle contradiction !
Si vous voulez vraiment être libre, commencez par ne plus tellement compter sur l’aide des autres. Chacun a ses soucis, ses difficultés, alors un jour on pense à vous et le lendemain on vous oublie, c’est normal. Et en admettant même que le monde entier soit disposé à vous aider, vous vous sentirez toujours insatisfait. Pourquoi ? Parce que ce dont vous avez vraiment besoin, les autres ne peuvent pas vous l’apporter, c’est vous qui devez travailler à l’acquérir. Ce dont vous avez vraiment besoin, c’est de devenir plus raisonnable, plus patient, plus fort, plus éclairé : c’est ainsi que vous serez plus libre. Il n’y a que vous qui, par vos efforts, pouvez y parvenir."

"Die Menschen sind eigenartig: Sie wollen frei und unabhängig sein, aber gleichzeitig haben sie ständig Erwartungen an die anderen. Sie verlangen unablässig, dass man an sie denkt, dass man sie liebt, dass man ihnen hilft und dass man an ihrer Stelle arbeitet. Was für ein Widerspruch!
Wenn ihr wirklich frei sein wollt, dann hört auf, zu sehr auf die Hilfe der anderen zu zählen. Jeder hat seine Sorgen und Schwierigkeiten. Also, einen Tag denkt man an euch, und am Tag darauf vergisst man euch, das ist normal. Selbst wenn die ganze Welt euch helfen würde, würdet ihr immer noch unzufrieden sein. Warum? Weil die anderen euch das nicht geben können, was ihr wirklich braucht, ihr müsst selbst daran arbeiten, es zu erlangen. Was ihr wirklich braucht, ist, vernünftiger, geduldiger, stärker und klarer zu werden. So werdet ihr freier. Und das könnt nur ihr selbst durch eure Anstrengung erreichen."
