"Che differenza c’è tra l’orgoglio e la vanità? La vanità si mostra buona, amorevole e generosa; va dovunque per farsi vedere, fa del bene per farsi notare, è servizievole per essere apprezzata; ma anche se gli altri ne traggono qualche vantaggio, chi la manifesta finisce per esaurirsi fisicamente, finanziariamente e psichicamente. L’orgoglio, invece, non è di alcuna utilità, neppure per l'ambiente circostante, poiché spinge gli esseri a diventare duri e sprezzanti. L'orgoglioso vuol essere apprezzato e rispettato senza fare nulla per gli altri. Soddisfatto della buona opinione che ha di se stesso, non va a esibirsi davanti a tutti, vuole che siano gli altri a spostarsi per andare a scoprirlo; e quando constata di non avere il rispetto e l'approvazione altrui e di non essere riconosciuto come un essere superiore, allora si chiude e si incupisce.

Nel vanitoso c’è comunque una luce… una luce un po' fumosa, è vero, ma almeno egli fa qualcosa per brillare. L’orgoglioso è cupo, è sotto il segno di Saturno, mentre il vanitoso è piuttosto sotto il segno di Giove. Ora, perciò, ponetevi la domanda: siete piuttosto orgogliosi o vanitosi?"

"What is the difference between pride and vanity?
Vanity shows itself kind and generous; it goes everywhere so that it may be seen, it does good so that it may be noticed, it is helpful so that it may be appreciated. But while others may benefit from it, it often tires out those who manifest it – physically, financially, and psychically. Pride, on the other hand, wants to be appreciated and respected without doing anything for anyone else. Satisfied with the good opinion they have of themselves, they do not go and parade themselves to the world, they want the world to come to them and discover them. And when they find that people neither respect them nor approve of them, that they are not seen as a superior being, they close up and become morose. 
With people who are vain there is at least some light; it may be somewhat hazy, but at least they are doing something to make it shine. People who are driven by pride are gloomy, dark, without any light. They are under the influence of Saturn whereas the vain are more under the influence of Jupiter. So now, as yourself the question: are you rather vain or proud?"

Le vaniteux se montre aimable, généreux ; il va partout pour qu’on le voie, il fait du bien pour qu’on le remarque, il est serviable pour qu’on l’apprécie. Mais si les autres en retirent quelques avantages, lui finit par s’épuiser physiquement, financièrement et psychiquement. L’orgueilleux, lui, veut être apprécié et respecté sans faire quoi que ce soit pour les autres. Satisfait de la bonne opinion qu’il a de lui-même, il ne va pas s’exhiber aux yeux du monde, il veut que ce soit le monde qui se déplace pour le découvrir. Et quand il constate qu’on ne lui apporte ni respect ni approbation, qu’on ne le reconnaît pas comme un être supérieur, il se ferme et s’isole.
Chez le vaniteux il y a quand même une lumière… une lumière un peu fumeuse, c’est vrai, mais au moins il fait quelque chose pour briller. L’orgueilleux est sombre, il est sous le signe de Saturne, tandis que le vaniteux est plutôt sous le signe de Jupiter. Alors, vous maintenant, posez-vous la question : êtes-vous plutôt orgueilleux ou vaniteux ?"

"Was ist der Unterschied zwischen dem Hochmut und der Eitelkeit? Der Eitle zeigt sich liebenswürdig und großzügig; er geht überall hin, um gesehen zu werden, er tut Gutes, um auf sich aufmerksam zu machen, er ist gefällig, damit man ihn schätzt. Aber wenngleich die anderen daraus Vorteile ziehen, wird er selbst sich dadurch schließlich körperlich, finanziell und psychisch erschöpfen. Der Hochmütige hingegen will geschätzt und geachtet werden, ohne auch nur das Geringste für die andern zu tun. Zufrieden von der guten Meinung, die er über sich selbst hat, wird er sich vor den Augen der Welt nicht zur Schau stellen, sondern möchte, dass die Welt zu ihm kommt, um ihn zu entdecken. Wenn er aber bemerkt, dass man ihm weder Respekt noch Beifall entgegenbringt und ihn nicht als höheres Wesen anerkennt, verschließt und isoliert er sich. 
Beim Eitlen gibt es wenigstens noch ein Licht, es ist zwar, zugegebenermaßen, ein wenig rauchig, aber er tut immerhin etwas, um zu glänzen. Der Hochmütige ist dunkel, er steht unter dem Zeichen von Saturn, während der Eitle eher unter dem Zeichen von Jupiter steht. Aber ihr könnt euch selbst die Frage stellen, ob ihr eher hochmütig oder eher eitel seid."
